This week we look into the internal world of Sabrina, a dear friend, comrade, chef and media maker based in Chicago by way of Miami,FL of Lebanese lineage. I talked to Sabrina the day after facilitating their nearly sold out Labneh Making workshop in Chicago and as they were on the way to the woods of Michigan to decompress.
You can also follow Sabrina’s writing on Substack, at Nourished!
This feature feels so needed as we enter election week. I hope you take the time this week to check in with your people and unplug as the fight for liberation calls us no matter the results. I’ll be watching Pixar movies and refilling my go bag just in case the world ends.
Reading: Hijab Butch Blues by Lamya H
Eating: For breakfast recently I made tomato fennel sauce with shakshuka, a fried egg some pita and nabulsi cheese or I'm normally having chia seed bowls with pumpkin
Playing: Stephen Satterfield Show (some great episode to dig into feature Giaae Kwon & Hanif Abdurraqib)
Obsessed: People who have access to conviction, folks who are willing to double down and trust themselves.
Recommending: Being diligent about care practices, after a year of witnessing genocide we need to be asking ourselves what is at stake, what our responsibility is, and mutating our guilt and shame into action to take care of our spirit to stay in the fight for Palestinian liberation.
Treating: Going camping and using my time to be off the grid, being in my body, being quiet and being in nature to recenter.
You can donate to Azkadinya, a UK based collective, empowering culture from SWANA. They are collecting donations to support grassroots organizations in Lebanon. Your contributions will help provide food, clothing, hygiene products, and medicine to those in need.
